Caption: This vertical (North to South in Equatorial coordinates) line of galaxies in the constellation Fornax provokes interesting speculation amongst astronomers as to its possible origin. The 9' by 9' area of the a DECam image, a tiny subset of the (approximately) 4200' x 4200' footprint of the whole DES survey, was found by scanning the DES sky maps by eye. While this may be a chance alignment of galaxies, it could also be a hint at underlying large scale structure of the nearby cosmos which tend to lie along elongated cobweb-type filaments (Image credit Erin Sheldon, BNL).
